Gregory is a fifth generation South Kenner resident, born to William & Evelyn Carroll Jr., and a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. He is married to Eliza Marie Butler with three children, Aaron, Gabrielle and Gregory II. Gregory grew up participating in all sports on Buddy Lawson Playground, formerly known as Morgan Playground. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School from Pre-K to 8th grade, a graduate of Alfred Bonnabel High School, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans.
While in college, Gregory worked as a Gymnasium Supervisor at Buddy Lawson Playground. After graduating from the University of New Orleans, he was hired as a Financial Analyst with Boeing Petroleum, a Prime Contractor with the Department of Energy (DOE). Gregory then went on to work with DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations of the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), as an Emergency Management Coordinator. In 2004, Gregory went to work as the Recreation Administration Coordinator with the City of Kenner Parks & Recreation. During this tenure, he was able to serve the citizens of Kenner as a Shelter Director during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Along with other City of Kenner employees, the shelter, which was located at Butch Duhe Gymnasium provided food, shelter and medical services for over 500 men, women and children. In 2006 Gregory went on to work with Louisiana Spirit, a Hurricane Recovery Assistance Program as a Manager of a team that provided crisis counseling, medical, employment and permanent housing resources to the people of Jefferson, St. Bernard & Plaquemines Parish that were survivors of Hurricane Katrina, Rita & Gustav.
Civic & Community Participation
For over 25 years, Gregory has been involved as a Booster Club Member, Booster Club President, coach, and academic tutor at Buddy Lawson Playground of the Kenner Recreation Department. A member and financial contributor to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD).
Gregory was appointed and served two (2) terms as a member of the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and was elected to two (2) terms as a member of the Jefferson Parish Executive Committee (JDEC).
Gregory W. Carroll a Democrat was elected on November 14, 2009 to the City of Kenner Council District 1 to fulfill the unexpired term of Marc E. Johnson.
