Permits & Licensing
The Inspection and Code Enforcement Department is responsible for processing permit applications for building construction and renovations, business signs, demolitions of structures, garage sales and the like. Other responsibilities include issuance of tradesman licenses (electricians, plumbers, mechanical contractors), collection of related fees and coordination of inspection schedules. This section includes personnel that are responsible for reviewing commercial and residential plans to insure compliance with the City's building code and other related regulations.
The Permitting Office is located at 1926 18th Street, Kenner, LA or you can call 504-468-4062, Option 1. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Garage Sale Permits
Valid for 3 consecutive days - 2 sales per year only
Electrical License
Cost new $200, valid for 1 year, renewal cost $75 Delinquent fee $30 Revival fee $75(must have current Jefferson Parish License or State Electrical License). Plumbing License

Mechanical License

Gas License

Building Permits
Necessary on all construction, including pools in and above ground, all portable or prefab buildings, cement work and fences. Cost varies, see attached. Please be advised that the demolition of any building must be permitted. Cost varies.
Special Event / Gathering Permits
All special events (i.e. bingos, raffles, etc.) must be permitted.

Brake Tag
Brake tags are currently available at five satellite stations.
The businesses that are currently providing Kenner brake tags are:

Both one-year tags, at a cost of $10, and two-year tags for $20 will be available for vehicles under 10,000 pounds. The new brake tag satellite operation was unanimously approved by the City Council on August 21, 2020.
Only auto repair businesses or gas stations are eligible to become certified to issue Kenner brake tags. All brake tag inspectors must pass a test in order to be certified. Inspectors who have been previously tested and approved by the state also will be certified.
There will be additional hours of operation at some of the satellite stations, compared to the schedule at the city's brake tag station. Please contact the individual satellite stations to confirm the times they are issuing brake tags and check the city's Facebook Page and website for any new stations.
The city is committed to retaining the Kenner employees who worked at the city brake tag station. They will either help to manage the satellite stations, assist in providing brake tags to commercial vehicles, taxi cabs and ride-share vehicles or be reassigned within the Code Enforcement Department.

The city now provides a waiver of vehicle certificate fees for Disabled Veterans, Medal of Honor and Purple Heart Recipients. He or she will have to produce adequate proof of their status at the time of application for the Certificate and shall be entitled to the waiver for no more than one vehicle. The fee of $6 is hereby waived for persons holding this status. Cost for a one year tag is $2.50, cost for two year tag is $5. A delinquent fee is $4.

The cost for the Taxicabs Certificate of Public Necessity and Convenience (CPNC) is $250 each (or $10,000 unlimited) and it is good for one year; however, the cost of a CPNC obtained after August 15th is $50. All CPNC's need to be renewed at the beginning of the year. Driver's permits are due on the driver's birthday at a cost of $50 and it is valid for two years. Taxicab inspections are required twice a year, during April and October at a cost of $10. These inspections are valid for six months.
