The Civil Service Department was created by vote of the Citizens of Kenner effective January 1, 2007. The Department is composed of the Director, his staff, and the Civil Service Board, which is an independent, five member, unpaid, citizens board that performs quasi-judicial and administrative functions related to the Kenner merit system of employment.
The Director serves as the executive head of the Department and is appointed by the Board. He is responsible to the Board for the recommendation, and upon approval, the implementation and administration of the merit system Rules, Classification Plan, and Pay Plan applicable to the Classified Service.
