Attention

Cell phones, Cameras, or any other devices capable of recording audio or video are prohibited in the Mayor's Court Building. The penalty for violating this ordinance carries a maximum fine of $500.00, plus court costs, and/or imprisonment for a maximum of 60 days. (Ordinance No. 12,290)

Traffic tickets that do not require a mandatory court appearance can now be paid with ease online. This payment option is offered as a convenience to the public.

Clerk of Court

The Clerk of Court has the responsibility of recording all documents filed with the Mayor's Court, keeping a record of all court proceedings and collecting various fines, forfeitures, and court costs ordered by the court and specified by the City Code of Ordinances.

Mayor's Court

The Mayor's Court, through impartial judgments, interprets and applies the law to resolve disputes and to ensure due process of the law. This Court has jurisdiction over traffic, misdemeanor and code enforcement violations occurring within the City of Kenner.

General Information

The office is open Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Most traffic tickets may be paid after 21 days from the issue date. Non-mandatory violations may be paid prior to the court date. To contest a traffic ticket, the defendant must appear in person on the day indicated on the bottom of the ticket. Traffic Violations / Accidents

When a person receives a traffic ticket, the court date and time are listed on the bottom of the ticket. Citations past due may result in additional fees, suspended driver's license, and an attachment. The following violations are mandatory court appearances:

  • Hit and run
  • Child restraint
  • Speeding 20 mph over the limit or greater
  • All insurance violations
  • All school zone violations
  • Texting while driving
  • No driver's license
  • Allowing an unlicensed person to drive
  • Open alcohol container
  • Railroad crossing
  • All misdemeanor cases (except loud sound)
  • All code enforcement cases

Misdemeanors, Attachment Arrests & Code Enforcement Cases

Misdemeanor cases (with the exception of loud sound), cases in which the defendant was arrested on an outstanding attachment, and code enforcement cases all require a court appearance. The date and time of the court appearance are on the summons and/or booking form.
